 Biography

My name is Gurleen Sidhu, and presently I am doing my PhD in Plant Agriculture with specialization in Plant breeding and Genetics. My PhD project is “Determination of Genetic Architecture for traits important in Asparagus Breeding Program”. I am recipient of Mrs Fred Ball Scholarship and Deans Scholarship for three years (2014-2016) doing my PhD for outstanding academic performance. I got my Masters in Vegetable Science (specialization in plant breeding, genetics and biotechnology) and Bachelors in Agriculture from Punjab Agricultural University, India. During my Bachelor and Masters I was recipient of University merit scholarship and merit certificate.


I was also awarded meritorious student award and BR Sharma gold medal for securing highest OGPA during my masters. I have delivered numerous poster presentations at national and international conferences. I have 10 publications for my masters research. I am also the member of different professional organizations (American Society of Horticultural Science, International Society of Horticulture and Canadian Journal of Plant Science). I also served on Graduate Student Liaison Committee, Departmental Social Committee and United Way Committee to organize different social events in the Department.

 Research Interest

Her Research interests are Plant Science, Genetics, Plant breeding, Molecularbreeding, Pathology, Entomology, Physiology, Statistics and Bioinformatics.
