 Biography

Dr. Aitizaz Uddin Syed graduated from Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad Pakistan. He holds FRCS Ed and FRCSC qualifications. His initial training in adult Cardiothoracic Surgery was in Royal London Hospital , London and Northern General hospital, Sheffield UK. He worked as a Senior Registrar Cardiac Surgery in Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, Armed Forces Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 5 years. He developed interest in congenital heart surgery and consolidated his training by working as a senior Resident in Boston Children's Hospital and as a Fellow in Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery in Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Ohio, USA from 2000 to 2002. He have also done a Fellowship in Adult cardiac surgery from Edmonton, Canada and passed Canadian Cardiac Surgery Board exams. He joined North West armed Forces Hospital, Tabuk, Saudi Arabia as a consultant Cardiac Surgeon in June 2002 and became the head of cardiac surgery unit there in 2007. In March 2013 he joined Madinah Cardiac Center, Madinah Munawarah, Saudi Arabia and presently working as Deputy Chief of Cardiac surgery and Program director Cardiac surgery training in Madinah Cardiac Center. His practice involves congenital heart surgery, neonatal corrections, coronary revascularisation, and heart valves repairs/ replacements.

 Research Interest

Outcome analysis and risk stratification in adult and congenital heart surgery, diastolic function of the heart, and pathophysiology of single ventricle.
