 Biography

Dr. Nathan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Fellow, and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Fellow and Master, the American Society of Dentistry for Children. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, DDS from Northwestern University in 1975, and completed his General Practice Residency at the V.A. Lakeside Hospital in Chicago in 1976. He completed the three year Residency Program in Pediatric Dentistry and his Master of Dental Science from the University of Connecticut in 1979 before returning to Chicago that July where he served as Assistant Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Illinois Medical Center while. He was appointed Postgraduate Program Director of the Advanced Training Program in Pediatric Dentistry from 1983-1986. He served as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Pediatrics, Rush University Medical School providing didactic instruction to the pediatric residents, medical students and faculty on Oral Pathology and Oral Health Care. He served as a pediatric dentistry consultant to the Council on Dental Accreditation and Consultant to the Sedation Committee of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and participated in the drafting of the original AAPD Guidelines for the Elective Use of Conscious Sedation of the Pediatric Dental Patient. Dr. Nathan has been engaged in private practice limited to pediatric dentistry from 1986 to the present time in Oak Brook and St. Charles, IL.

Dr. Nathan has maintained an active role in academics where he serves as Adjunct Professor, Depts. of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Otolaryngolgy, Dept. of Otolaryngology/Dentistry at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, while serving as attending housestaff at Children's Memorial /Ann and Robert Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, since 1988. He currently serves on the editorial board of seven journals. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatrics and Neonatal Nursing, and the Journal of Otololaryngology and Rhinology.

 Research Interest

His primary research interests and publications are in the area of Child Behavioral Guidance, both non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of childhood dental anxiety and challenging behavior.
