Dr. William D. Davenport, Jr. attended the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi, receiving a B.S. degree in Biology, and an M.S. degree in Biology. He received the Ph.D. in Anatomy from the Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University). From 1975-1982 Dr. Davenport was a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. In 1982, Dr. Davenport joined the Department of Oral Pathology at LSU School of Dentistry, New Orleans, Louisiana. At LSU, Dr. Davenport served as the Director of the Research Histology Laboratory, and as the Coordinator of Support Technologies (TV/AV, Medical Photography, Medical Graphic Arts, and Computer Services). He served on numerous LSU Dental School and Health Science Center committees. In 2002, Dr. Davenport joined the inaugural faculty at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine, Las Vegas, NV, where he now serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Davenport has received Outstanding Teaching Awards, and most recently the ADEA Chair of the Board Citation Award for his pioneering work in curriculum and foundation knowledge development. He is a member of numerous professional and honor societies, most recently having served as Chair of the ADEA Council of Sections Administrative Board and as President of the Board of Directors of the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honorary. He has served as a Test Constructor for the Joint Commission on National Dental Boards and currently serves as a Consultant in Biomedical Sciences and Research for the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dr. Davenport is a seasoned educator, with principal teaching responsibilities in human developmental anatomy and general and oral histology. His research interests have been in vasculogenesis in the primary lymphoid organs, dental implant-tissue interface, oral lesion epidemiology, and most recently curriculum design/integration/implementationand education methodology/trends.
