 Biography

Ms Nighat Yaseen Sofi hailing from District Srinagar,Jammu and Kashmir State, India is currently pursuing PhD from Banasthali University, Rajasthan. After completing her Masters Degree in Dietetics and Food Service Management, Ms Nighat completed her Internship in clinical nutrition and dietetics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), wherein she completed research study on therapeutic diets for hospitalized diabetic patients admitted for Diabetic Retinopathy and other ocular complications. Thereafter she joined Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition as Senior Research Fellow wherein she worked in the field of micronutrients and studied the micronutrient status of the most vulnerable groups of Indian population. The primary focus was on Iodine Nutritional status of neonates, adolescent girls and pregnant women. Her work is not just confined to Iodine deficiency, rather she has also been a budding scientist and is currently working on role of Vitamin D in Human Health and is pursuing her Ph.D in the same area. She is the recipient of the Young Scientist award for best presentation and content of the lecture at 5th International Vitamin D Deficiency and Human Health Conference held at Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2016. She is also the recipient of the Certificate of Recognition for her lecture on Obesity and Breast Cancer in Indian Women at the Conference on Obesity Treatment and Weight Management, at Las Vegas, USA in 2017. She was also honored with the best poster award for Clinical Sciences and Patient Based Research held on 28th December 2016, at Udaipur, India. Her main area of study is reproductive and nutritional risk factors with special emphasis on vitamin D and calcium status in Breast Cancer patients. Her other scientific involvements are in the departmental research projects like Pediatric Metabolic Syndrome,micronutrient status in school age children and adolescents, assessment of nutritional status,morbidity status and utilization of health care facilities in elderly population. Her contribution as co author to the review article on Childhood Obesity: Causes and Consequences has received the most cited article of the year award for the year 2015. She also holds the honor of being Editor for eBook entitled Vitamin D deficiency: Causes and Treatment, USA. External reviewer for the International Journals, She is the recipient of Certificate of Excellence for her contribution as reviewer to the International journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. A Lifetime member of Indian Dietetic Association, she was the organizing committee member of Second International workshop on Micronutrients and Child Health (MCHWS),AIIMS, New Delhi held in November 2014. She has actively participated as the leading organizing committee member for women’s health awareness programs for breast, oral and cervical cancer held in the year 2014 and 2015. She has also participated as delegate in the Regional Workshop on Sodium Intake and Iodized Salt by World Health Organization, in 2014. With over ten publications in different journals of National and International repute, Ms Nighat continues to work in the field of micronutrients and public health.
