 Biography

Lei Ding is an Associate Professor in Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Jiangnan University Wuxi Medical School located in southern Jiangsu province, China. Prof. Ding has been studying molecular mechanisms involved in cartilage degeneration featured in primary and post-traumatic osteoarthritis for over 10 years. Her work has been reported in 22 peer-reviewed research articles or book chapters and in nearly 20 conference abstracts archived in Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting Transactions. Prof. Ding received her M.D. degree from Shandong University School of Medicine in Jinan, Shandong, China, and her Ph.D. degree from The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, U.S.A., under the supervision of the late Prof. Gene A. Homandberg who was internationally known for his discoveries of the catabolic actions of fibronectin fragments which lead to cartilage degradation in primary osteoarthritis. Before joining the faculty of Jiangnan University Wuxi Medical School, Prof. Ding completed her postdoctoral training and then worked as an Assistant Research Scientist in The Ignacio V. Ponseti Orthopedic Biology Laboratory affiliated with Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at The University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, U.S.A.

 Research Interest

Her research interest includes Pathophysiology in cartilage degeneration; biologic treatments of cartilage defects; tissue engineering of articular joints; osteoarthritis; osteoporosis; femoral head necrosis; sports medicine; tumor bone metastasis; and musculoskeletal malignancy.
