Dr Basharat Dar is a visiting scientist at the Institute of Food Science, Cornell University, USA. His research revolves around nutritional and anti-nutritional components of minor fruits and vegetables. In his science laboratory, he tries to integrate theories of chemical and life sciences to understand the complexities of the food system. His research aims to provide solutions to food security issues through exploring its biological utilization aspect. As a part of his larger research goals in the food and nutritional sciences discipline, he aims to devise novel and sustainable technologies which would ensure the delivery of bioactive and functional ingredients for enhanced food quality and safety through product development. He is graduate in Agricultural sciences. For higher studies he selected Food Technology as field of specialization and did his Masters and Doctorate in 2008 and 2011, respectively. In 2012, he joined as Assistant Professor of Food Technology at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Jammu and Kashmir (J & K). Basharat’s research contributions are widely recognized in his discipline. He is an active member of some of the most reputed international associations in the discipline of food science like IFT, ASFFBC, WASET, ISEKI and FSSA. He has an active presence in public policy discourse through his position as a technical expert of CA&PD, and an expert member of the State Food Processing Development Council (SFPDC), J & K.
